Arkansas Grower Sees Opportunities to Remain Competitive

Stand and Deliver Tour Region mapCotton grower Ron Holthouse, Osceola, Ark., stays competitive by experimenting with new cottonseed varieties each year. Last year, he and consultant Danny Moore evaluated new Stoneville® cotton varieties in an on-farm trial. After a yield result of 1,496 lbs/A for new ST 4498B2RF, he plans to expand his knowledge of this variety by planting it on additional acres this year.

“The new Stoneville varieties deliver the yield and fiber quality we need to keep us in the cotton business,” says Holthouse. “In 2007, we planted the majority of our 3,600 acres of cotton to ST 4554B2RF because it is the most consistent Bollgard II and Roundup Ready Flex variety.”

Cotton grower Ron Holthouse, Osceola, AR.Despite the strong past performance of ST 4554B2RF, Holthouse says he is always on the lookout for newly available high-performing varieties, and ST 4498B2RF shows great potential. Holthouse and Moore say consistent vigor contributes to high yields and good fiber quality from these varieties.

“Stoneville leads the industry in developing Roundup
Ready Flex varieties with consistent high yields and good fiber quality,”
says Moore, Moore’s Pest Management Inc. “When a grower is evaluating
these varieties, I recommend ST 4554B2RF because it is a durable
variety that performs consistently across all soil spectrums.”
